Longtime Humana executive to lead South Florida-based health care company
MIAMI – Dec. 21, 2011 – CAC-Florida Medical Centers (CAC) today announced that Mark Kent, a nurse by training and a longtime Humana operational leader, has been named chief executive officer of CAC-Florida Medical Centers.Kent, whose appointment was effective Nov. 7, comes to CAC after nearly seven years with Humana in South Florida and the Fortune 100 company’s corporate headquarters in Louisville, KY. in various strategic, operational and business development roles.
“Mark Kent brings a wealth of health care, management and operational experience to his new role as CEO of CAC-Florida Medical Centers, leading this growing company into a dynamic future well beyond its South Florida roots,” said CarePlus Health Plans CEO David Jarboe, who announced Kent’s appointment as new CAC chief executive officer. CarePlus, a South Florida-based Medicare Advantage HMO, and CAC are subsidiaries of Humana Inc.
Kent began his career with Humana in Miami in 2004. He was responsible for operational management, strategic planning, clinic startups, and sales and marketing coordination for Humana’s 51 wholly-owned affiliated provider centers in South Florida. His experience included designing, planning and implementing one of the first fully electronic medical record systems in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties at the time.
Kent later moved to Humana’s corporate headquarters where he held several strategic roles, leading multiple work teams in operational and process improvements for the company’s Senior Products operations.
In 2009, Kent was promoted to Humana market operations leader for Ohio, and most recently, he served as Market Vice President of the Ohio and Indiana Senior Products segment for Humana’s East Central Region.
Kent succeeds Dr. Mayda Antun as CAC-Florida chief executive officer. Dr. Antun was recently named to a new national role with Concentra, a Dallas-based health care company owned by Humana that provides health, wellness and medical services to consumers and employers at more than 300 medical centers in 40 states.
Kent received his master’s in business administration from Purdue University. He also completed Six-Sigma training at the University of Michigan and has been recognized as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt by the American Society for Quality. Kent is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Fellow of the Medical Group Management Association.
Kent, who lives in Miami and has been active in charitable causes in South Florida, also founded the Foster Children’s United Society, a not-for-profit foundation which assists foster children.
CAC currently owns and operates 11 medical centers in Miami-Dade County and will open two new full-service medical centers early next year in the Orlando area. CAC medical centers serve Medicare Advantage members of CarePlus, Humana and Amerigroup Medicaid HMO members and patients with Original Medicare. The company also offers an affordable fee schedule for self-pay Medicare and Medicaid patients.
